The 6-year course of MBBS in Russia is divided into two- 3 years of academic education and 3 years of clinical rotation. Each year is further divided into two semesters. The general curriculum for the first three years of MBBS in Russia focuses on developing the academic understanding among the students. The major subjects include physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics and general pathology. Though, at certain times, the clinical rotations commence from the second year onwards.
The latter 3 years of MBBS in Russia are fundamentally focused on developing the professional skills among the students and thus is clinical training/ clinical rotations. The period prioritizes sharpening clinical skills with a series of clinical clerkships in Primary Care Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency medicine, Internal medicine, Neurology and Psychiatry.
National Medical Commission (NMC), previously known as the Medical Council of India (MCI) is the responsible body for conducting the medical licensing exam in India. All the students who study MBBS in Russia and wish to practise or pursue further education in India have to qualify for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination(FMGE). The FMGE Exam is conducted twice a year by the National Board Of Examination (NBE). The would-be was replaced with the National Exit Test (NExT) from 2023 onwards.
