The University

 Founded in 1932 in Makhachkala city of Russia, Dagestan State Medical University is a medical university in Russia. In the first academic year, 150 medical aspirants were admitted to the University. Since then, the University has not looked back and has continued to grow and increase the quality of medical education, research, and training that it provides.

Besides students from Russia, the University has been a center of medical education for students from other countries as well. In 1982, for its contribution to international cooperation and friendship, Dagestan State Medical University was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. In 2005, the University was awarded the European Quality International Award.

For research and hands-on experience in medicine, the University has a training and laboratory complex and works with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to find solutions to healthcare issues. Thanks to its research initiatives, the University has published more than 100 white papers and about 60 books in the last five years. 

The University has kept its pace well with modernity. Classrooms are equipped with technical teaching aids, including audio and video equipment. The University uses tech-equipped teaching methodologies to deliver medical education in a modern setting.

The University maintains a low student-teacher ratio for the personalized learning experience of the students.At present, the University has a strong teaching staff with more than 700 faculty members.

For Pre-Clinical Training and to prepare students for real clinical rotations, a simulation center is operated on the campus. Simulation center helps students sharpen put their knowledge into practice and sharpen their medical skills by working in an artificial environment. For the practical experience of the students, clinical training is provided in University-affiliated hospitals. Clinical rotations are provided based on the specialization chosen by the students.

For better practical exposure, the students are also provided internship opportunities at regional hospitals. Professional experience gained during internships immensely helps the students while looking for employment opportunities after graduation.

Library of Dagestan State Medical University has a collection of about 6,00,000 medical books and is freely accessible by all members of the University. To provide calm space for self-study, the library has reading rooms where students can study at their own pace. For eBooks and digital copies of study material, students can subscribe to the electronic library system. 

The University has a glorious history spanning more than eight decades, and over the years, many of its graduates have risen to the position of prominent figures in the industry of medical education and healthcare. Museum of the History of Dagestan State Medical University preserves the University’s history, traditions, achievements, and exhibit rare medical objects collected by various departments over the years. 

Until now, more than 27,000 students have graduated from the university. Presently, around 5,000 students are pursuing medical education at Dagestan State Medical University, including hundreds of international medical aspirants from more than ten countries. 

The University is constantly working to improve and expand its infrastructure with innovative technologies and processes. Besides providing medical education, the University actively participates in healthcare programs to improve the health of local people and involve its students and staff members in the process.  

Dagestan State Medical University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and also certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), United States of America. Dagestan State Medical University is also approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC). The University offers a 6-Year program for MBBS in Russia for local as well as international students. Students in India who have qualified NEET can apply for direct admission to the MBBS Program of Dagestan State Medical University.

Student Life

Dagestan State Medical University facilitates a healthy and playful lifestyle for its students and faculty members and maintains a culture of friendliness, cooperation, and mutual support. 

The University operates four hostels and provides fully-managed accommodation to its students. To keep students healthy, strict guidelines are followed for maintaining hygiene and sanity in the entire university area. 

For recreation and celebrate local as well as international traditions, cultural events, and other celebrations are organized in the assembly halls of the University by the Center of Culture. The University also organizes habit formation programs to inculcate good habits among students and help them quit bad habits throughout their student life. 

To take care of the rights and interests of the students, the Student Trade Union Committee is in place. It also provides a platform for students to express their ideas and opinions, develop solutions to common issues, and foster a sense of community between the students.

Student Association Department works to increase the involvement of the students and develop their moral and creative potential. To enable students to play sports and maintain an active lifestyle, the University has a modern sports complex.  Youth Affairs Committee of the University keeps organizing various extracurricular activities and competitions for the students, which helps students keep their creativity alive and take a break from their hectic academic schedule. 

Living in Makhachkala, students benefit from an enjoyable climate with an average temperature of 1°C in winter and 25°C in summer. For outdoor recreation, students can go out to explore famous places of attractions in Makhachkala city. Makhachkala’s art museums, state theatres, Holy Assumption Cathedral founded in 1906, and Tarki-Tau Mountain offers an exciting experience for the visitors that students can take advantage of.
