The University

 Founded in 1920, Smolensk State Medical University is one of the oldest and top government medical universities in Russia. The University is located in the Smolensk city of Russia, which is 400 kilometers away from the city of Moscow. 

In the international ranking of medical universities, the University has maintained 22nd position. Today, Smolensk State Medical University is known to be a big scientific organization where fundamental, applied, and methodical scientific research is carried out.

Presently, students from more than 50 countries are studying medicine at Smolensk State Medical University, including students from India. For international students, MBBS classes are organized in English medium. The University has a total of 1,000 MBBS seats, and 323 medical seats are reserved for international students. 

For a personalized learning experience, the University maintains a low student-teacher ratio supported by a team of about 450 well-qualified professors. Besides its own faculty members, the University invited lecturers from other countries including the USA, UK, Canada, and Germany. To keep its students up to date with medical research, the University has its own scientific publication, “Smolensk Medical Almanac.” 

Library of Smolensk State Medical University has a vast collection of about 6,00,000 books and provides access to online medical resources, ensuring that students have access to all kinds of study material. Smolensk State Medical University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and also certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), United States of America. Also, Smolensk State Medical University is duly approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC). 

The University offers a 6-Year program for MBBS in Russia and accepts applications for admission from local as well as international students. Indian students who have qualified NEET can apply for direct admission to the MBBS Program of Smolensk State Medical University.

Student Life

Smolensk State Medical University has a well-developed campus that has everything required for fruitful and comfortable student life. Besides lecture halls, labs, and library, the University’s campus provides hostels for comfortable living of students, mess facilities for healthy food, sports complex, a playground and a park for a healthy lifestyle, and cultural complex for recreation, celebrations, and leisure activities of the students. 

Hostel rooms are well-furnished, and each room is shared by two or four students. For boys and girls, there is a separate hostel arrangement. The sports complex of the University has a cricket playground and facilities to play Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Table tennis, Hockey, Badminton, and other sports. 

To keep students warm, entire hostels are served by a centralized heating system. Interested students can also avail the gym facility, and for healthcare, there is a 24 hour medical center available on campus. For beginners, help is available from professional trainers. 

To provide students from India with Indian food in Russia, the University also operates an Indian mess facility with separate sections for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. If students don’t want mess food, they are allowed to cook their own food in the shared kitchens. Besides, there are many restaurants in Smolensk, near the University campus where Russian food is served at a low cost.

The entire University area is guarded by the security surveillance system of the University to ensure students’ safety. 

Among other cultural programs, the Indian Cultural Program is organized every year, where students showcase the traditions and culture of India. In winter, students get a vacation of 15 days and in summer, there is a vacation of two months. During winter vacation, students can spend time in recreation and extra studies while in summer vacation, they can visit India. 

For outdoor recreation, students can go out to explore more than a thousand years old city, Smolensk. Thanks to its centuries-long and interesting history, Smolensk is blessed with some of the finest work of Russian architecture and is home to great monuments and lush green gardens. 

In Smolensk, students experience summer as well as winter seasons with temperature in summer going as high as 30°C while as low as -10 °C in winter.
